How to kill a dream without hurting the dreamer?

The boys both found out somehow that pets are a cool. We've done our best to keep them from the idea, but you can only protect the innocence of the young minds up to a point; and so it appears, that we've just passed that point. They now are more determined than before; and furthermore, this time the twist came with a spin. They don't want a dog, cat, or a hamster, but worse.

Benjamin wants a millipede. (Click on the word to find out what it is.) And worse, he is really excited about it. He even has a name for it: Pertti (Bert, the best English equivalent) because he things that it's great match: Bert the millipede. (Pertti tuhatjalkainen)

Sarita and I are both quite puzzled because it's sounds like an easy pet to maintain, which destroys all our previous excuses for not having pets. Plus, I myself still need to work on couple of emotional issue before any creature like that enters our house. Apparently, I've passed the issues on Joonatan. He commented on Benjamin's dream rather blatantly: "That thing is so-o disgusting, that I will kill it on the minute I see it." Now we have settled to wait and "think about it" but the three of us are quite unison in wishes that the Benjamin comes back to dream of dogs and cats. (that we cannot take because momma is allergic... - easy)

Joonatan himself wants a turtle. Allergy doesn't work as an excuse for that either, so when heard about it, I quickly came up with a plan of making it sound difficult. Joonatan is quite responsible by character, and I played cheap and tried to use that as his weak spot. So, I told him (from the top of my head) that turtles can live as long as humans do, so you should be prepared to take care of it for the rest of your life.

Joonatan turned silent for a moment and just when I though I'd scored it, he replied: "Dad, it's no problem. When I get tired of keeping it, we can always cook it."

How about that? I did not know what to say. So we put the plan to rest along with Bert the millipede, and Sarita and I now have sometime to come up with a better strategies.

yet another photography post

sorry about ruminating on the topic that might not interest you at all, but just in case your are into photography, and a canon shooter - unlike fidel castro et al. - and you dream of shooting from afar - and your savings are not in the most western stocks that just took a steep dive...

...then, here could be something for you. B&H has the huge Canon 1200mm F/5,6L waiting for you. The lense is in effect 1800mm lense on EOS 300/350/400D - which is about 15 times more than average point-and-shoot camera zoom. I can't since my camera is Nikon, but if not, I might...

...the price is about right for a second hand...

Nikon rules... in Caribbean too

Just in case someone reading the blog is buying a camera, but puzzled over which to choose, nikon, canon or other (worse) options. Perhaps this peer support will help you. Do you know the guy? If not then woe to you, but the camera is right brand.

in case you thought your driving kills you

In the anticipation of the soon-to-begin 2008 F1 and WRC seasons, and in honor of the long and successful career of Markus Grönholm that ended last year: check this out. Motorsport is not an easy and painless trade.

our sixth family member...

...no, no, no... not a new member....

...my goodness, what were you thinking about.... an old member, but just not blogged about before.

A couple of years ago, aunt Heidi gave Joonatan a little McDonald merchandise, Rooh, and they clicked instantly. From then on, Rooh's been through almost everything. For the first years Joonatan carried it everywhere, everytime, and never-ever-ever-ever - for a one single time - did he forget it anywhere. That's an incredible achievement to a 2,5-5year-old-active fellow. But Rooh was like part of his hand.

Almost three years ago, they hit some major crises when Joonatan started to go to a kid's club, which enforced them to separate for three hours twice a week. The bond survived the test, but now with the preschool, and other new grown interests they are clearly living trough a little cooler times, and Rooh only accompanies him in bed. This however, is very vital to Rooh. His life expectancy lies solely on the hope that the relationship never warms up again. He's been through such a numerous major surgeries and innumerable amounts minor fixes, and currently lives on the very edge of life.

Here's some dig-ups from the archives, and a final shot from today.

Long Live Brother Rooh!

354 days until christmas, here's some pics from the last

It's little late or early, depending on how you view it, but I finally got the christmas pics transferred to my computer. Here's some...

We had great time with my Mom and Dad visiting us at Christmas eve. Here's Joonatan taking a picture of napping grandpa.

Santa showed up in the afternoon and created panic (the schedule is all upside down at these latitudes, compared to American/British pale copy of things). Joonatan runs wiping the tears of joy, Olivia just tries to save her life.

Here the ice starts melting...

Benjamin was determined that Olivia shouldn't miss santa's warm lap, but she was determined to keep away from the weirdest/beard-est intruder. Eventually she walked over (and run back) to pick the gift from Santa. She probably did some math and concluded that the risk was worthed.

But she did not make it to the portrait - this year. Next year it'll all be different.

later in the evening, Joonatan summed up the facts as he was laying in the bed. He said - Dad, Santa can't be real. - How come, I asked. Joonatan replied - Because, he looks different every year, and this year he had Juhana's eyes...

*BUSTED!* Juhana, but thanks anyway. I think you did a great job. =)

Here are we all at Christmas supper.
